Program Objectives

The ENLACE bi-national summer research program at UC San Diego aims to encourage the participation of high school and college students in research in the sciences and engineering, while promoting cross-border friendships in the Baja California/San Diego region.

ENLACE is a 7-week residential program for students that are between their junior and senior years of high school (entre cuarto y quinto semestre de bachillerato) and college students at any year of their college from which students depart with outstanding technical abilities and the soft skills needed to excel in the sciences and engineering. The program is bi-national with participation from Baja California and San Diego students. Students are organized in pairs (one from each side of the border) and they work together in research laboratories from across the UC San Diego campus. Participating areas include all fields of Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and the Biological Sciences.

The program is an opportunity to explore a variety of interests through work on varied projects ranging from the use of advanced characterization tools for the development of new materials, computational biophysics to explore dynamic molecular recognition events, and synthesis of new compounds for energy technologies. It is a dynamic summer internship program that is dedicated to nurturing the vast potential each student possesses, and challenging them to always consider science in the context of societal needs.

ENLACE 2017 Program Details
